Scrap-Attack — Tetris with TNT

Scrap-Attack is a Tetris-like arcade puzzle game by klunkoplunko, released in September, 2026.

There is no lack of falling block games on any kind of gaming platform you can imagine, and you might remember Picolumia and Bees Wax from my earlier Pico-8 Adventures. They pushed the well-known blocky geometric puzzle in their own unique and interesting directions, and Scrap-Attack continues this tradition by adding an explosive twist to the classic recipe.

The best way to get a hang of it is to flip through the pages of the animated tutorial available in the title screen menu. It dynamically demonstrates all the aspects of what lies ahead without wasting player’s time.

The logic at the core of the puzzle is quite simple — place one or more bomb blocks, connect them with fuse wires and then light them up with fire that occasionally burns through pieces of scrap falling from above. After a few seconds all this scrapheap will go away with a bang raising your score by a few points.

The difficulty is not limited by gravity forces. It comes with new types of blocks to deal with. Plus, you can also choose a level to start the game at in six progressively increasing steps in the main menu.

A few rounds in, you get barrels full of highly flammable fuel. Put them around the explosives you’ve placed and the next blast will go even louder, turning even more blocks into extra points. Then the game starts throwing metal blocks into a familiar mix of rocks and heavy mining equipment. These take two hits to be scrapped away, requiring more clever strategy to be cleared.

Going for a longer fuse to connect a more impressive number of bombs need extra time to plan out your demolition operation which may turn out quite risky. Blowing up one or two pieces at a time is a safer choice at the cost of a lesser reward.

I also want to highlight the rocking music theme playing at the menu screen. It’s not gonna bother you during gameplay to let you focus on placing all the blocks exactly where you want them, yet it still deserves its own thumbs up.

In the end, Scrap-Attack is not just yet another Tetris clone, dressed up in a new skin of finely crafted sprites. It’s a fresh take on a timeless design you absolutely have to try for yourself, so it gets an Avarian Thumbs up!
